Datatrak adds Site Performance to its eClinical Platform

Datatrak is highlighting ease of access to site performance metrics as a key differentiator as it launches the latest version of its platform eClinical product suite.

The latest version of eClinical suite is tracking metrics on investigative site performance in clinical trials.

This should be critical information to sponsors in their choice of sites “as efficient enrolment of patients is often the reason why clinical trial timeframes are delayed and projections are missed, resulting in an increased overall cost for research and development”, Datatrak pointed out.

In fact it is true; Site Performance and metrics are critical data for sponsors. For example, some physicians are keener to actively participate to clinical trials, use eClinical Systems than others. So as a sponsor you would know which one is the best site/physician for your trial to run smoothly and in a timely manner.

But site performance is from far not the only thing a sponsor would like to assess in terms of performance. In fact the site is one of the last pieces of the cake: before they can efficiently enroll patients and enter data in any system there is a whole process to go through for which performance could and should be assessed: writing and approval of protocol, choosing and setting up an EDC system, IVR System, time used in useless communication and paperwork.

Assess performance of clinical trials will certainly reduce its time, delays and costs.

As we can see it becomes essential to EDC systems to differentiate themselves from their competitor. One differentiator factor is to extend their solution in adding functionalities that are out of the scope of an EDC Vendor.

Within one sponsor, there are often more than one EDC provider offering different tools, so it is critical to be able to assess the performance across all of them.

    Well said.

What types of metrics would be considered site performance measures? Is datatrak (as an EDC provider) just providing screening and enrollment data by site? Consolidated site performance (again screening and enrollment) over more that one study? Even reading their release, it’s unclear what kind of performance measures they refer to. Filtering data by site seems less than exciting or differentiating.

    Hi Simon,

You are right, it all depends what kind of metrics they are using and how they are combining them together…This is something we don’t know, since we are not familiar with their system.
Site performance measures can be broken down in to three phases:
    1. site selection to activation
    2. site activation to first screening
    3. first screen to final enrollment (final enrollment number being a defined number which site agree to enroll.
